When needing to play a movie (some movie files, dvd, or blu-ray) on Windows 10 you need specific codecs that Microsoft no longer includes in the operating system. They can be acquired for free from VLC. Please follow the steps exactly.
When needing to play a movie (some movie files, dvd, or blu-ray) on Windows 10 you need specific codecs that Microsoft no longer includes in the operating system. They can be acquired for free from VLC. Please follow the steps exactly.
- Download the 3 attached archives ("vlc-2.2.4-win32.zip.001", "vlc-2.2.4-win32.zip.002", "vlc-2.2.4-win32.zip.003") from this help article
- Open the primary downloaded file (named: "vlc-2.2.4-win32.zip.001" unless you renamed them when downloading)
- Open the "vlc-2.2.4-win32.exe" program within the archive and run it (named "vlc-2.2.4-win32").
- If prompted, verify the publisher of the program is "VideoLAN" and then answer "YES"
- When prompted, select your language (default: English)
- Press next twice and select the type of installation as Minimum on the "Choose Components" screen.
- Press next and Install the program
- Uncheck the "Run VLC" checkbox and Finish the installation.
